UK
Flight Information
There
are scheduled flights from most major UK and International airports,
including Gatwick and Heathrow daily. Most can be expensive, but
Easyjet has
flights from Stansted (at least twice a day during the Summer Season),
Luton, Gatwick, Bristol, Liverpool and East Midlands airports. Book
on line at www.easyjet.com.
Also watch out for special offers in conjunction with the national
newspapers,or subscribe to their on-line newsletter. Easyjet do
not provide reserved seats and board you according to your check-in
letter (A - D) - so check in early for the best choice of
seats (though you can now pay extrafor Speedy Boarding to board
first)! Also, if you want to eat on the plane, take your own, as
they carry a very limited supply of snacks and drinks (and can run
out!). Ryanair also now
fly to Faro from a number of UK airports.
Monarch
fly a daily scheduled service from Gatwick and a less frequent service
from Luton at reasonable cost, with booked seats and meals and wine
- www.flymonarch.co.uk - as with all these airlines, it is cheaper
to book on-line.
Thomsonfly
also fly from Bournemouth, Cardiff and Manchester to Faro.
Jet2.com
fly from some northern and Scottish airports to Faro.
Flybe.com
fly from a number of airports including Southampton, Exeter, Leeds,
Manchester, Newcastle and Norwich.
Insurance
I
suggest you book your travel insurance separately, it is again generally
cheaper than through a travel agent. Suggested companies are Premier
Direct (0990 133 218) and Churchill
(0800 026 4050), and Tesco
(supermarket), all very competitive.
Apartment
The
apartment is normally available for occupation at mid-day on day
of arrival and should be vacated by 10 am on day of departure.
We
can make arrangements for a food parcel to be provided (at cost)
for your arrival provided you let us know, but if you are arriving
during the day, the local supermarkets are normally open until late
and stock all the usual items.
Though
the flat officially sleeps 2, there is plenty of room to accommodate
3 persons (4 at a squeeze) as there is a comfortable Z bed in the
lounge area. A cot can be provided if requested in advance.
However please advise if more than two will be staying so that sufficient
bed linen, towels etc are left out for you. We also need your flight
details in advance, so again, please let us know as soon as you
have booked.
Vale
do Lobo is very easy to get to from the airport, approximately 20-25
minutes, and detailed directions will be provided once you have
booked the apartment.
Car
Hire
Car
hire can be arranged through a UK company and car picked up from
the airport or nearby depot. Some UK companies to book through are
Skycars International (01923 835317), Suncars (01444 255646), Pelican
(01625 586666) and Holiday Autos (0990 300 400). Watch out for the
insurance excess!
On the internet, we recommend trying CarJet
who do standard or all-inclusive
prices with no insurance excess.
The major car hire
companies are located to your right as you come out of Customs with
their own buildings outside the main terminal building.
Alternatively
a car can be booked direct with a Portuguese hire company and will
almost certainly be cheaper. We can recommend AirAuto (Tel 00351
289 300 200 or Fax 00351 289 300202 or e mail: airauto@mail.telepac.pt)
who we have used for many years. Ask for an "all-inclusive"
price, and you won't have to worry about any insurance excess.
Air-Auto are based in a car hire booth on Car Park 4 and will have
a car there for you. You leave the terminal building, cross
the road and also the first car park in front of you. Cross
the road and look to your left. You will then see a small
car hire building (a bit like a large bus shelter) where a number
of local car hire firms operate from.
Enjoy
your holiday!
